International Competitions

Since the first Special Olympics World Games in 1968, the world has transcended the boundaries of geography, nationality, political philosophy, gender, age, culture, and religion to come together every two years for the Special Olympics World Games.

Alternating between summer and winter, the World Games have become the flagship event of the Special Olympics movement, an international manifestation of inclusion, acceptance, and unity.

Bringing together over 7,000 athletes from 192 countries, the World Games offer a unique experience and open doors to unimaginable possibilities for athletes and their families. For volunteers, coaches, and supporters from all regions of the world, the Games inspire hope and faith in a better future of global acceptance, understanding, and unity.

In Morocco, our athletes train and strive every day to give their best. The World Games are a great opportunity for them to travel, to feel independent, and to meet athletes from around the world, in a sport’s gathering carrying messages of unity, courage, and tolerance.

The Kingdom has indeed been represented at several World Games: notably in Abu Dhabi in 2019, Los Angeles in 2015, Athens in 2011, Shanghai in 2007, and Dublin in 2003.
