Special Olympics Morocco is a sports training and competition program designed for athletes with intellectual disabilities. It was established in October 1994, at the initiative of the late Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Amina.

As a founding member of the Middle East and North Africa region, Special Olympics Morocco has implemented modern techniques to improve the quality of services offered to athletes, thus aiding in the physical, psychological, and social development of individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Through numerous sporting activities, Special Olympics Morocco aims to:

Facilitate

Facilitate social integration and inclusion

Raise awareness

Raise awareness among different segments of society about the rights of individuals with intellectual disabilities

Motivate

Motivate and encourage families, volunteers, and students to participate in sports, socio-educational, and recreational programs

Train

Train coaches and educators to provide adequate support for athletes in various sports disciplines.

 

Beneficiaries of Special Olympics Morocco programs and activities include

Individuals with intellectual disabilities attending the following institutions :

  • Medico-pedagogical centers
  • Associations and organizations for individuals with intellectual disabilities
  • Integrated classes of the Ministry of National Education
  • Individuals with intellectual disabilities outside institutions
     
     

Achievements of Special Olympics Morocco on :

An international scale include

  • Participation, represented by the late Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Amina, in the work of the Advisory Council and the Board of Directors of Special Olympics International.
  • Organization of the Special Olympics International Strategic World Congress in Marrakech in 2010.The proceedings of this congress culminated in the adoption of the Special Olympics Strategic Plan 2011-2015.
     
     

An regional scale include

As a founding member of Special Olympics in the Middle East and North Africa region, Special Olympics Morocco participates in promoting actions carried out by various Special Olympics programs at the regional level :

  • Organization of the second edition of the Special Olympics Regional Games in October 2000 and the regional championship in basketball and cycling in 2012.

  • Organization of two meetings of the Regional Advisory Council of Special Olympics in Casablanca (2006) and Fès (2008).

  • Participation in various regional games organized by the MENA region.

  • Participation in various working meetings organized at the regional level, as well as in training sessions initiated within this framework.
