Special Olympics is an organization that has been supporting people with intellectual disabilities worldwide for over 50 years. In Morocco, our team’s work successfully changes lives, creating advocacy networks for a positive and lasting impact.
Special Olympics wouldn’t exist today without the time, energy, commitment, and enthusiasm of its volunteers. They are coaches, elite athletes, trainers, artists, officials, event organizers, fundraisers, and managers.
Through the power of sports, individuals with intellectual disabilities discover new strengths and abilities, allowing them to develop their skills. On the playground as in life, our athletes find joy, confidence, and fulfillment. Moreover, they inspire people from their communities and beyond to open their hearts to a broader world of talents and human potential. In Morocco, approximately 125,151 people live with intellectual disabilities (statistics table published in 2009). With families included, there are several thousand individuals who are affected and impacted in their lives yet remain invisible to society.
" Our mission is to reach out to each one of them while aiming to change society's perception of disability ".
