Tribute to the Founder of Special Olympics Morocco

The late Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Amina, Founder of Special Olympics Morocco

Princess Lalla Amina, may her soul rest in peace, founded Special Olympics Morocco in 1994, thus illustrating the royal will to promote sports for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

The late Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Amina showed particular interest in promoting the rights of individuals with intellectual disabilities and in implementing the high directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, aiming to integrate Special Olympics Morocco athletes into their social environment through sports.

Thanks to her care, Special Olympics Morocco experienced significant growth in various sports disciplines.

The establishment of training sessions for coaches and trainers, as well as the organization of championships and competitions, allowed Moroccan athletes to shine and achieve significant results regionally and internationally.

The late Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Amina, Founder of Special Olympics Morocco, implemented the necessary resources for the development of programs and activities of Special Olympics Morocco, aiming to increase the number of athletes, coaches, and volunteers, in addition to parallel activities in the socio-educational and health fields.

The late Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Amina also played a decisive role in the development of the Special Olympics International movement, presiding over the Advisory Council of Special Olympics for the Middle East and North Africa region during two sessions.

The commitment and determination of the late Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Amina in favor of Special Olympics International were rewarded by the organization of the Special Olympics World Congress in 2010 in Marrakech, which was a major global event that allowed the adoption of a strategic vision for the Special Olympics movement by 2015.
